Data Destruction
Secure data erasure for retired business IT equipment using recognised sanitisation methods matched to the device and risk level.
Modern storage needs more than a quick format
Deleted files and formatted drives can still leave recoverable data behind. ERS Queensland uses Blancco with NIST Clear and NIST Purge methods to help make retired drives safe for reuse, resale or recycling.
Blancco data erasure
Blancco Drive Eraser supports NIST Clear and NIST Purge sanitisation methods across HDDs, SSDs and NVMe storage, with verification and erasure reporting.
Learn more about Blancco Drive Eraser →NIST Clear vs NIST Purge
NIST Clear
Used where standard logical sanitisation is suitable. Commonly used for lower-risk media or assets that will remain under controlled handling.
NIST Purge
A stronger sanitisation level used where data sensitivity or asset release requires greater protection against advanced recovery attempts.
Why HDDs and SSDs are handled differently
Traditional hard drives and solid-state drives do not store data the same way. HDD erasure often relies on controlled overwriting and verification. SSDs can use wear levelling and hidden spare memory areas, so they often need firmware-based, cryptographic or SSD-specific erasure methods.
The right method for the right media.
A reusable laptop, a failed hard drive and a modern SSD may each need a different sanitisation path. The method should match the device, the data risk and the intended next step.
Clear steps, clear records
ERS keeps the process practical: identify the media, choose the correct method, verify the result and provide suitable reporting.
Identify
Drives and data-bearing devices are identified before sanitisation begins.
Select Method
NIST Clear or NIST Purge is selected based on media type and risk.
Erase & Verify
Blancco performs the erasure process and verifies the result.
Report
Erasure records support audit, resale, redeployment or recycling decisions.
